Deviations in weight and colour
Details of the weight of materials and gems given are approximate and may vary. This applies particularly to rings as the weight of gold depends on the ring size. Since each piece is made to order, all other types of jewellery may also show slight deviations to some tenths of a gram. While rings in very small sizes generally contain less gold than those in standard sizes, they are also usually far more complex to create.
Details of gem weights may vary slightly, since each gem is a unique natural product with its own specific weight. For example, a faceted rhodolith with dimensions of 9x6mm weighs an average of 1.92 carats, while an aquamarine of the same size weighs an average of only 1.28 carats. However, the specific weight of a gem is unconnected to its quality: the aquamarine costs around one-third more than the rhodolith, despite its far lower weight. In addition, precious gems are cut painstakingly by hand, so that gems of the same type and size may also show slight variations.
Please take the weights given here for gems and gold as approximate values which may, in extreme cases, vary widely due to the factors explained above. Each piece of jewellery you buy from RenéSim is supplied with a certificate in which we confirm the precise weight of your personal piece.
Colours of materials and gems may deviate slightly from the images shown. There are a number of reasons for this:
Gems are natural products. Each stone is different and unique, and may thus be lighter or darker in colour. Other factors playing a significant role in the appearance of gems are their cut and the light in which they are viewed; many gems take on completely different appearances under natural and artificial light. The appearance of a gemstone also changes constantly with the angle of light incidence.
Gemmologists also identify special features in many types of gemstones. These features (for example, the sparkling star effect in star sapphires) can be rare, beautiful and extremely valuable phenomena enhancing the desirability of a gem. Only highly experienced gem-cutters are able to judge the value of raw gems at an early stage and bring out their unique beauty.
Deviations in colour may also be caused by differences in computer monitor displays. Colour, brightness or contrast settings, manufacturing methods or other characteristics of a computer (e.g. laptop or desktop, PC or Apple, quality and age) may play a role in colour reproduction.
